The volleyball community is in mourning following the passing of Tore Aleksandersen, a revered figure in the sport. The Norwegian coach, who made a name for himself at Allianz MTV Stuttgart and SSC Palmberg Schwerin, lost his battle with cancer at the age of 55 on December 6. His passing is not just a loss for volleyball, but for the world, as he was much more than just a coach.
Aleksandersen was known for his calm demeanor and infectious positivity, as well as his resilience and strength in the face of his illness. Despite his struggles, he remained devoted to volleyball, drawing inspiration from the sport. He was a passionate coach who paid meticulous attention to detail and cared deeply for his players.
In 2003, Aleksandersen began his journey in German volleyball and quickly made his mark by leading SSC Palmberg Schwerin to a German Championship and DVV Cup title in 2006, followed by another championship in 2011. He coached the team for seven years, making him one of the club’s most successful coaches.
In 2020, despite his health challenges, Aleksandersen returned to Germany to coach Allianz MTV Stuttgart, leading them to the final series for the German championship in his first year and subsequently to a national double and the final of the CEV Cup. In the 2022/23 season, he led the team to the championship title before retiring due to his illness.
Aleksandersen’s legacy extends beyond Germany, including coaching the Norwegian men’s national team, the Finnish women’s team, and achieving success in Norway, Poland, and the USA. He was recently named an honorary member of the Norwegian Volleyball Federation in recognition of his remarkable achievements.
Aleksandersen passed away in his hometown of Molde, leaving behind a legacy of dedication to family and his profession.
