The Grant Thornton Invitational in Naples, Florida marks a week of firsts for many. The event is the first co-sanctioned mixed-team PGA TOUR-LPGA Tour in over two decades, and many players saw each other playing in person for the first time. In the second-round Foursomes play, Lexi Thompson hit the first ace in tournament history, partnering with Rickie Fowler at Tiburón Golf Club. Her perfectly flighted 7-iron from 155 yards at the par-3 16th propelled her team up the leaderboard. The ace was part of a back-nine 5-under 31, helping the team recover from a slow start. They finished with a second-round 4-under 68, sitting T4 at 16 under for the tournament, trailing Lydia Ko-Jason Day heading into the final-day Modified Four-Ball format.
Thompson has won before at Tiburón Golf Club, claiming victory at the 2018 CME Group Tour Championship by four shots over Nelly Korda, who coincidentally carded her first ace in her seven-year LPGA Tour career at Tiburón during the 2023 season-ending CME Group Tour Championship.
