Dion Dawkins of the Buffalo Bills defended the truth and fair competition after his team won last weekend due to a bad call. The memory of Patrick Mahomes fuming at referees after they flagged the one play that would’ve given the Kansas City Chiefs a victory is still fresh in people’s minds. Dawkins came out to defend his opponent, acknowledging that refs have also made mistakes against his team. American football lacks a system for refs who consistently make bad calls, unlike soccer which has a set of rules in place for all their referees. Speaking on CBS Sports’ ‘The Zach Gelb Show’, Dawkins proposed that refs who make incorrect calls should be fined, just as players are held accountable for their actions. This added pressure could lead to more perfect calls and fairer games.
