The Edmonton Oilers had a winning streak from November 24 to December 12, but have since lost three games. As a result, some experts speculate that management may make changes after the holiday roster freeze ends on December 28. The team has been rumored to be in the market for a new goaltender, and there is ongoing speculation about the future of defenseman Philip Broberg, who is currently playing in the AHL. However, Oilers GM Ken Holland recently denied giving permission for Broberg’s agent to speak with other teams about a trade. TSN’s Darren Dreger suggested that a trade might be more likely for Broberg, who still wants to play in the NHL. He also mentioned the possibility of including Broberg as a sweetener in a trade to free up cap space. However, it may take more than just including Broberg in the deal to convince other teams to take on Jack Campbell’s $5-million annual salary cap hit. Holland may prefer to make a big trade closer to the March 8 deadline, potentially including Broberg or Dylan Holloway, a first-round pick, and a veteran player.
