According to The Athletic’s Tim Kawakami, the Golden State Warriors (15-16) are contemplating parting ways with Andrew Wiggins. The team’s general manager, Mike Dunleavy, hinted at a potential departure earlier this month, leaving Wiggins’ future with the team uncertain. The 28-year-old has struggled this season after missing significant time last year and was recently benched in favor of Jonathan Kuminga. With the Warriors currently in 11th place in the Western Conference standings, Wiggins will need to improve before the February 8 trade deadline. He is averaging 13 points and four rebounds, and his scoring and 3-point shooting percentages are the lowest of his career. Moreover, his four-year, $109 million extension is deemed excessive for a bench player. Dunleavy has set an ultimatum, stating that the team’s record in the next 15-20 games will determine the course of action. He emphasized that the chemistry, lineups, and overall evaluation of the team are crucial factors in the decision-making process.
