For her contributions to sport and charity, Hazel Irvine, a BBC snooker presenter for over two decades, has been named an MBE in the 2024 New Year Honours list. Hazel began her career in sports broadcasting on Radio Clyde, and made her television debut in 1987. She became a member of the BBC’s snooker team in 2001, and continues to be the primary presenter for the World Championship, Masters, and UK Championship, as well as other global events such as the Olympic Games and golf’s majors. She is also the Honorary President of Enable Scotland, a charity that helps children and adults with learning disabilities. Congratulations to Hazel! Kelly Fisher, a five-time World Women’s Snooker Champion from 1998 to 2003 who later transitioned to pool, has also been bestowed with an MBE.
