The NFL has seen significant changes in January, with multiple high-profile coaching departures leading to new eras for several teams in 2024. The New England Patriots have appointed Jerod Mayo as their new coach, replacing the legendary Bill Belichick. Meanwhile, the Atlanta Falcons, Washington, and Los Angeles Chargers have desirable coaching vacancies.
One surprising departure was that of Pete Carroll from the Seattle Seahawks, where he had been coach for a long time. Although he has been given a role in the front office, Carroll has not ruled out coaching again in the future. However, he is being cautious and has not yet found the perfect opportunity, despite there being several vacancies available.
Carroll, who led Seattle to the playoffs in 2022 and a 9-8 record in 2023, has been highly respected for his communication skills and was credited with revitalizing the Seahawks after the 2022 trade of quarterback Russell Wilson. Richard Sherman, one of Carroll’s former players, believes that the perfect landing spot for him would be with the Chargers in southern California, where he previously coached the USC Trojans. Despite the Chargers’ interest in Jim Harbaugh, Carroll’s championship pedigree and motivational abilities make him a strong backup choice if Harbaugh chooses to stay at the University of Michigan.
