Ahead of the Divisional Round clash between the 49ers and the Green Bay Packers on Saturday, the star of the former team spoke to reporters about the latter team’s recent success. Nick Bosa highlighted why he thinks the current version of the Packers could potentially be even more dangerous without Rodgers. Bosa stated that they have many of the same players from their past successful teams and a quarterback who follows the coach’s instructions. While acknowledging that Aaron Rodgers is a Hall of Famer and an exceptional player, Bosa believes that it is sometimes beneficial to have a quarterback who does what he is coached to do. Rodgers had a successful 15-year run as the primary QB for the Packers, largely due to his ability to generate highlight plays on the fly. However, with a brilliant offensive coach in Matt LaFleur and a more flexible QB in Jordan Love, the Packers seem to be heading in the right direction. Rodgers has been dealing with off-field controversies recently, with the New York Jets QB being in the spotlight for non-football reasons. Pat McAfee, who has always given Rodgers the freedom to stir up controversy, appears to be relieved to have a break from interviewing the star quarterback.
For the 2023 season, Rodgers made his final weekly appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Tuesday. Recently, he made a joke about Jimmy Kimmel being on the Jeffrey Epstein list, which caused national non-sports news. Kimmel, whose name was only on a fake and edited version of the list, threatened to sue Rodgers. Rumors circulated that McAfee canceled his interviews with Rodgers due to the quarterback’s beef with Kimmel, but McAfee clarified that Rodgers’ scheduled weekly appearances were set to end anyway with the New York Jets’ season being over. McAfee is happy that his show can now pivot back to sports rather than politics. ESPN condemned Rodgers’ comments about Kimmel, and McAfee accused an ESPN executive of sabotaging his program. Rodgers hinted that it might be beneficial for his backup Zach Wilson to move on from the Jets after failing to convince during the 2023 season. Rodgers wants what is best for Wilson and acknowledges that a change of scenery can be a breath of fresh air. The Jets appear determined to avoid going into another season with Wilson as their only viable backup plan.
