Eddie Howe has transformed Newcastle’s 30-year-old centre-back, Lascelles, into one of the team’s most consistent performers this season. Despite being a £7m signing from Nottingham Forest almost a decade ago, Lascelles’ Newcastle career has been an interesting one. Besiktas is reportedly in talks to bring the defender to Istanbul, but Newcastle is not interested in selling their club captain. Newcastle is currently unable to make any signings due to FFP restrictions, and selling Lascelles could open up some funds. However, the Magpies might struggle to find a defender who can replace him. Given Lascelles’ role in the team, offloading him to Besiktas could be a mistake. Although a move could be good for Lascelles this year, Newcastle would be wise to wait until the end of the season to consider moving on the former Forest defender.
