The Green Bay Packers’ defense, which used to be under the guidance of Joe Barry, has been underwhelming. However, The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman and Dianna Russini suggest that former Packers star cornerback Al Harris, who is currently on the Dallas Cowboys payroll, could be the solution to their problem. Harris has an impressive track record in Arlington, where he coached Dallas cornerback DaRon Bland to become a first-team All-Pro this season and set an NFL record for most pick sixes in a season. Since Harris became the Cowboys’ defensive backs coach in 2020, they have ranked tied for second in the NFL with 69 interceptions. Harris is also a Packers Hall of Famer, having played for the team for eight years from 2003 to 2010, during which he received a second-team All-Pro nod and two Pro Bowl honors.
This is not the first time that Harris’ name has come up as a potential future defensive coordinator for the Packers. In December, Peter Bukowski of The Leap expressed his desire for a Harris-Packers reunion, citing his coaching potential and diverse defensive background.
