According to Voetbalkrant, Leeds United are on the verge of announcing the signing of Daiki Hashioka from St Truiden. The 24-year-old had also attracted interest from Genk and Club Brugge, but it appears that Leeds have won the race for his signature. Negotiations between the two clubs were reportedly well advanced, and the announcement is expected to be made soon.
Hashioka could be the solution to Daniel Farke’s full-back problem, following the departures of Luke Ayling and Djed Spence. He is capable of playing on either flank and has already scored two goals and provided two assists in 18 league appearances this season. He can also play higher up the pitch on the right side.
With almost 200 appearances to his name across spells with Urawa Red Diamonds and St Truiden, Hashioka has eight goals and 21 assists. He has fallen out of favour at international level but a move to Leeds could benefit his Japan career.
Hashioka’s attacking threat could fit well with Farke’s free-scoring side this season, with the German liking his full-backs to fly up and down the flanks. Leeds fans should keep their eyes peeled for the announcement of this January signing.
