Before the transfer deadline on Thursday at 11pm, the Saints were eager to strengthen their attacking options. Russell Martin will be pleased to have acquired the Wales international, David Brooks, as the Championship club aims for automatic promotion to the Premier League. Joe Rothwell is the only other player to have joined St. Mary’s this month, while Carlos Alcaraz is set to move to Serie A’s Juventus. Brooks has signed on loan until the end of the season with Bournemouth, with no obligation to make the deal permanent in the summer. EFL pundit Carlton Palmer believes that the signings made by Southampton, Leeds United, and Ipswich Town in the final stages of the window could be decisive in the automatic promotion race. Palmer believes that Brooks could provide the extra quality needed for Southampton to secure a place back in the Premier League. Southampton is currently third in the Championship table, one point off the automatic spots. Leeds, Southampton, and Ipswich are separated by two points, with Leeds having played a game more. The signings made by these three clubs could make all the difference in the promotion race.
