Over the weekend, surprising news emerged that Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Haason Reddick has been given permission by the team to seek a trade, according to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Reddick signed with the Carolina Panthers at a discounted rate after a successful 12.5 sack season with the Arizona Cardinals in 2020, but some were skeptical of his breakout year given his previous lack of production. However, Reddick proved his worth with the Panthers, recording 18 QB hits, 12 tackles for loss, and 11 sacks in his lone season with the team. Despite expressing interest in staying with the Panthers during their rebuild, Reddick ultimately signed with his childhood team, the Eagles. In his two years with the Eagles, Reddick has amassed 87 tackles, 49 QB hits, 27 sacks, and 24 tackles for loss. As he approaches his 30s, Reddick is expected to generate significant interest around the league and may not come cheap in a trade. While some have suggested the Panthers pursue Reddick, it is unlikely to be a priority given the team’s current defensive construction and pressing offensive needs. If the asking price is reasonable, it may be worth considering, but his $21.8 million cap hit in 2024 makes it a financially unwise move for a team coming off a two-win season.
