After being selected as the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Matt Corral knew his time with the organization was limited. Unfortunately, his NFL career was short-lived as he failed to make a significant impact in the pros. However, he now has a chance to revive his professional career with springtime football.
According to The Spun’s Daniel Bates, former Carolina Panthers QB Matt Corral is seeking opportunities with the newly-formed UFL, just two years after being drafted in the third round. Pro Football Newsroom’s James Larsen reported that Corral has signed with the Birmingham Stallions after brief stints with the Patriots and Panthers.
Despite not getting the chance to showcase his abilities in the NFL due to competition from Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, and PJ Walker, Corral is determined to prove himself in the UFL.
Following an unsuccessful stint with the Panthers, he was given another opportunity with the New England Patriots. However, when Bill Belichick opted to endure his final season with Mac Jones struggling at quarterback, he found himself teamless once again. With his NFL prospects dwindling, the Birmingham Stallions presented him with a much-needed chance. He hopes to impress with the UFL team and earn a shot at competing for any of the league’s backup QB positions. Corral is a dependable quarterback who played all four years of his college career at Ole Miss, amassing 8287 passing yards, 57 touchdowns, and a 159.2 passer rating, demonstrating his prowess at throwing the football.
