Mock drafts are exercises in thought that generate reactions to various possibilities and are not intended to be predictive until the week of the NFL Draft. They are more effective after free agency has slowed down, as needs have been partially or fully addressed. However, mock drafts can still be exciting and generate buzz early in the offseason. In a pre-free agency mock draft by Ian Cummings of Pro Football Network, the Buffalo Bills were projected to select Brian Thomas Jr., a wide receiver from LSU, in the first round. Thomas Jr. fits the bill for the Bills’ need for explosive downfield and ball-carrying wide receivers. While he has the size and speed to be a consistent vertical threat, his contested-catch abilities are still developing. He has the potential to be an upgraded version of Gabe Davis and has been compared to Martavis Bryant in play style.
