Tre’Davious White suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in Week 4 against the Miami Dolphins, causing concern for the Buffalo Bills regarding his future with the team. As he undergoes rehabilitation for his second major injury in three seasons, the Bills are faced with a significant dilemma due to their projected $54 million salary cap deficit. Releasing White could save the team over $6 million in cap space, but the Bills value the 29-year-old and may not be willing to let him go. General manager Brandon Beane stated that the focus is on getting White healthy, but uncertainty about his recovery makes it challenging for the Bills to make a decision before the start of free agency. Additionally, White is due a $1.5 million roster bonus shortly after the new league year begins in March.
Buscaglia recommended a solution for the Buffalo Bills to retain White by extending his contract and converting his 2024 earnings into a guaranteed signing bonus, while adding non-guaranteed years through 2027. This move would create over $7 million in cap savings and allow White ample time to recover from his injury, which typically takes 10-12 months to heal. While White is out, Rasul Douglas and Christian Benford will fill in at cornerback.
