Although the Pittsburgh Steelers have been strongly linked to a potential trade for Justin Fields, it’s important to note that such a move comes with its own set of risks, despite being a good fit.
If the Steelers do acquire Fields from the Chicago Bears, his contract will become a major focus. ESPN’s Aaron Schatz believes that the Steelers should trade for Fields this offseason, as the Bears are likely to move him in order to draft a quarterback with the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. This means that Fields could be available at a reasonable price.
Although the Steelers have publicly supported Kenny Pickett, it’s hard to ignore the fact that Fields is the better quarterback with a higher potential. His ability to excel as both a passer and a runner would be particularly useful, especially given the average quality of the Pittsburgh offensive line.
The Steelers have yet to determine their course of action regarding their QB situation, although there have been discussions about the possibility of Russell Wilson being a potential target, in addition to Fields and Cousins.
Thankfully, fans won’t have to wait too long to find out what the Steelers ultimately decide.
