Despite it being the offseason, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin never stops working. He’s constantly gathering information and researching potential targets for the 2024 NFL Draft. Recently, Tomlin attended the Senior Bowl in Alabama to get a closer look at some players. Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy even commented that Tomlin’s presence at such events is a major reason why prospects desire to play for the Steelers.
The Steelers hold the No. 20 pick in the draft, which may not be a high pick, but they still need to make the best decision possible to prevent it from becoming a waste. While rumors suggest the Steelers may draft a quarterback, it’s more likely they’ll select an asset for their offensive line or defense. Offensive tackle Amarius Mims from Georgia and center Jackson Powers-Johnson from Oregon are two offensive linemen being considered as first-round targets for Pittsburgh.
Although the Steelers made it to the playoffs in the 2023 NFL season with a 10-7 record, they failed to advance past the wild-card round. If they can land a game-changing piece at the NFL Draft, someone who can contribute at a high level right away, the Steelers could take a significant step forward in 2024.
