Despite not being in the NFL for several years, former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick remains a prominent topic in the football world. In 2016, he gained notoriety for taking a knee during the National Anthem to protest police brutality, which made him a controversial figure in the league. However, despite some pushback, Kaepernick’s message has gained international recognition and he has recently been featured as the cover star for GQ Germany. The publication has called him a “modern superhero” and praised him for waking up the world with his silent gesture. Despite his message remaining relevant, Kaepernick has not been accepted back into the NFL. During the 2023 season, he wrote a letter to the New York Jets asking to join their practice squad after Aaron Rodgers suffered an injury, but he was not signed by any team.
