Although it’s obvious that Russell Wilson won’t be playing for the Denver Broncos, he still wants to play football. How about participating under a previous coach who he won the Super Bowl and worked with for the better part of a decade?
It’s no secret that Dave Canales, the new head coach of the Carolina Panthers, is searching for superior additions for a squad that won just two games in 2023. The results of last year’s top overall pick, Bryce Young, were far from what they had anticipated. Therefore, if they bring in an experienced player to the quarterback room, nobody will be surprised.
After two years of turbulence, Russell Wilson was just released by the Broncos, taking the largest dead-cap hit in NFL history. Since then, a number of suitors have surfaced as potential destinations for the 35-year-old, and a reunion with Canales in Carolina is among them.
Canales, the former quarterback coach of the Seattle Seahawks, was asked by Kay Adams on a recent episode of “Up and Adams” if Wilson might visit Bank of America Stadium over the offseason. The 42-year-old responded in an interesting way.
When Russell Wilson was at the top of his game, from 2010 to 2022, Dave Canales was a part of the Seahawks coaching staff. He began as the wide receivers coach, moved to the position of passing game coordinator after serving as the quarterback coach, and then returned to that role (Gene Smith). He was named offensive coordinator of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the start of the 2023 campaign.
When Wilson arrived in the Broncos in 2022, the Seahawks signed a $245 million, five-year contract extension with him. But he’s moving again after only two years.
