Brad Treliving, the general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, revealed on Wednesday that they have extended the contract of forward Bobby McMann for two years, worth $2.7 million in total. The new deal has an average annual value of $1.35 million and is set to start in the 2024-25 season.
McMann has recorded 10 goals, eight assists, 18 points, and 36 penalty minutes in 40 games for the Maple Leafs this season. He achieved his first NHL hat trick against the St. Louis Blues on February 13th as the Maple Leafs secured a 4-1 victory. Originally from Wainwright, Alberta, McMann initially signed with the Maple Leafs as an undrafted free agent, starting with a two-year AHL deal with the Toronto Marlies in 2020. After stints in the ECHL with the Newfoundland Growlers and the AHL with the Marlies, McMann inked a two-year contract with the Maple Leafs worth $762,500. Throughout 118 AHL games with the Marlies, McMann has notched 49 goals and 22 assists for a total of 71 points. In his NHL career spanning 50 games, he has scored 10 goals and tallied nine assists for a total of 19 points.
Before becoming a professional hockey player, McMann played for the Bonnyville Pontiacs in the Alberta Junior Hockey League, where he scored 36 goals and 68 points in 47 games in his final season. He then moved on to play for Colgate University in the NCAA, where he was the team captain in the 2019-20 season. In the 2018-19 season, he was recognized by being named to the NCAA ECAC Third All-Star Team for his performance. Over his four years at Colgate, he accumulated a total of 92 points in 145 games. The Maple Leafs are scheduled to play against the Philadelphia Flyers tomorrow and the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday.
