Shaq Thompson has displayed leadership by agreeing to restructure his contract with the Carolina Panthers, reducing his base pay to $3.1 million this season with $1.7 million guaranteed. This move has opened up around $3 million in cap space for the team, preparing Thompson for his 10th season with the Panthers. Prior to this restructuring, his 2023 contract would have resulted in a $24.4 million cap hit. Despite missing most of the 2023 season due to a fibula injury, both the Panthers and Thompson are looking forward to his return to full health and the high level of defensive performance he has shown throughout his NFL career. In his most standout season in 2022, Thompson recorded 135 tackles, and the Panthers are hopeful he can replicate that success in the upcoming 2024 season.
