Damien Lewis is scary, if Robert Hunt is a dawg.
During the first week of free agency, Lewis, a former guard for the Seattle Seahawks, inked a four-year, $53 million contract with the Carolina Panthers. The 27-year-old recently talked about what he hopes to bring to the Panthers, and what he said should scare the entire NFL.
“I’m thinking that I’m going to punish you every play,” Like I’m trying to establish the mood. In a press conference with reporters on Wednesday, Lewis declared, “I’m going to be this tone-setter.” “Well, I’m considering planting your face in the ground.”
Lewis, who stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 337 pounds, did not give up more than three sacks throughout his four seasons in Seattle. His tenure with the Seahawks was intermittent.with new-look head coach Dave Canales. He is now tasked with bringing that same intensity to Charlotte.
His primary objective will be keeping now-sophomore quarterback Bryce Young upright.
In his first season, Young suffered 62 sacks. In NFL history, that is the second-highest amount for a rookie quarterback. With 76 sacks in his debut season, David Carr was the only quarterback to have more sacks than Young.
Lewis will make sure that Young has more time to read the field in 2024 by utilising his experience blocking Russell Wilson, a shorter quarterback.
The former Seahawk is up to the task and feels confident doing it.
Lewis declared, “I have to be the best at everything I do.” “I’ve gotta keep running through your face.”
To ensure that Young can play his best ball in his second season, the Panthers aren’t upset about acquiring Lewis.
