Exactly a year ago today, I penned a piece detailing all the genuine reasons why I despised the Panthers, stemming from my upbringing as a Packers-hating fan. The Panthers had an abysmal 2023 season, securing the top draft pick early on. Though I wished for a winless season, they managed to notch a 2-15 record. It was a glorious season for my anti-Panthers sentiments.
Moreover, it’s worth mentioning that the coveted number one pick now belongs to the Bears, who are eyeing a top quarterback prospect in an upcoming draft.
I express my gratitude to Sir Purr for this wonderful outcome.
However, when fans of the Panthers read my article, some found it alarming and suggested I seek therapy for my apparent disdain. They questioned why I held such strong negative feelings towards their team and some even claimed they didn’t think about the Bears at all, focusing instead on their playoff aspirations.
I never bothered to respond to their comments.
But amidst all the backlash, I did receive what I consider the best compliment ever for one of my articles…
Yes, it was all in good humour, but since that article was written, there have been some clarifications, notes, and heartfelt revisions. Firstly, I chose to use Carolina Blue as the Panthers team colour in the piece because it was mentioned in a few different places. Since then, I’ve heard of something called “process blue,” which seems more formal. One Twitter user claims that it’s intended to divide the distinction between Duke blue and North Carolina blue. I sincerely apologise and accept my error.
One year ago, I wrote an article outlining all the genuine reasons why I disliked the Panthers, as a fan conditioned to dislike the Packers, it was a great season for me to root against them. The Panthers’ performance in 2023 was so poor that they secured the top overall pick early on. While I had hoped for a winless season, they ended up with a 2-15 record. However, the first pick now belongs to the Chicago Bears, who have an exceptional quarterback prospect in the upcoming draft. I received some negative feedback from Panthers fans who felt I was overly critical, but I have since visited the Carolinas and met some passionate supporters. After this experience, I have moved on from my intense dislike and no longer harbor any animosity towards the Panthers. The balance has been restored, and I am back to apathy towards the team.
