After becoming a cap casualty in Buffalo, cornerback Tre’Davious White of the Buffalo Bills may have a chance to start fresh with a Super Bowl contender, according to an insider.
On March 6, White was released by the Bills as a part of a roster restructuring that freed up over $30 million in cap space overall. After joining Buffalo as a first-round selection in 2017, White was a key component of the team’s defensive comeback. However, throughout the last three seasons, White has had two serious injuries, raising questions about his future.
According to ESPN’s Bill Barnwell, White is still a strong candidate to play for the NFC West champion San Francisco 49ers.
After suffering a torn ACL and going through rehab to return to the field, White faced another setback with a torn Achilles. Despite concerns about his injury history, Barnwell pointed out that White maintained a high level of play. Moving forward, there is hope for White to get back to full health by the next season and potentially play a full year in 2024. The 49ers could benefit from adding White for depth in their cornerback group. Even though the Bills will miss White’s leadership, they have solid options in Benford, Douglas, and Johnson to maintain consistency in their secondary.
White has a history of overcoming injuries with tenacity. White claimed he had the opportunity to reflect and discover more about himself while recovering from the torn ACL he had sustained in 2021.
According to ESPN, White stated in 2022, “I got more to give to people than knocking down passes and intercepting balls.” I sat down and thought, “Tre’Davious White, what else can I offer people? It was the first time in my life that I had felt like this. I’m aware that I’m more than just a passing down in a football game. I began to read and transition into a new environment. Simply getting to know myself and discovering why I’m here on Earth in addition to enjoying football games.
