A 12-year NFL veteran, three-time Super Bowl champion, and standout player for the San Francisco 49ers nearly destroyed his life by facing significant jail time after.
According to a TMZ story, Tim McKyer was booked on five counts of fleeing the scene of an accident causing property damage. The charges stemmed from an alleged incident that occurred in a parking garage in Riviera Beach, Florida on February 19.
Court documents reveal that the former San Francisco 49ers defensive back has agreed to participate in a pretrial diversion program to have the charges against him dropped if successfully completed. The program includes requirements such as completing 16 hours of community service, four hours of defensive driving courses, paying a $100 fee, and maintaining good behavior. A hearing scheduled for late May will determine if McKyer has met all the program’s conditions. In the February incident, it is alleged that McKyer crashed his Tesla into five parked vehicles, causing visible damage and some to be rendered inoperable. Subsequent police investigation found McKyer backing his car into another parking space on a different floor without acknowledging the damage caused, and he was later contacted by officers who observed signs of intoxication such as the smell of alcohol and balance issues.
Following an impressive college career with the Texas Longhorns, McKyer went on to have a successful stint in the NFL. He was a key player in three Super Bowl victories, two with the 49ers and one with the Broncos. McKyer was known for his standout rookie season with the 49ers, where he made six interceptions and scored a touchdown. Despite being labeled a journeyman in the 1990s, he made significant contributions to various teams. McKyer retired from the NFL after the 1997 season. He had memorable moments in his career, including intercepting a pass for a touchdown during the Carolina Panthers’ first season and giving up a crucial touchdown in the AFC Championship game in 1994. His career came full circle when he faced his former team, the 49ers, and made a game-changing play.
He was a member of the Denver Broncos when he recovered a fumble on a kickoff return in the third quarter of Super Bowl XXXII.
Playing for seven different organisations, including two distinct stints with the Atlanta Falcons, the former NFL cornerback concluded his career. 33 interceptions and ten defensive touchdowns were his career totals.
