Tre’Davious White, a former All-Pro cornerback, is currently a member of the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams, who are revamping their secondary, have reached an agreement with White to pay him $8.5 million for a single season. Last season, this defensive unit was thought to be vulnerable in this area. According to reports, White’s contract may be worth up to $10 million.
White spent seven seasons as a player for the Buffalo Bills prior to signing with the Rams. He made two trips to the Pro Bowl while playing with Buffalo, and in 2019 he was selected an AP All-Pro. However, during the previous two seasons, injuries limited his playing time.
White tore his knee ligament in 2021 and wasn’t able to play again until November 2022. He then tore his Achilles tendon in Week 4 of the next season, which rendered him ineligible to play the remainder of 2023.
The Rams have strengthened their secondary three times in free agency with the signing of White. In addition, they re-signed Darious Williams, who had previously played for Jacksonville before winning the Super Bowl with the Rams, and acquired safety Kamren Curl from Washington.
The Rams have not signed any defensive linemen during free agency, even with Aaron Donald’s retirement. They did, however, re-sign Larrell Murchison, a reserve lineman. Chris Shula, the new defensive coordinator, will oversee the defence.
After being selected in the first round from LSU in 2017, White had been a starter for the Bills since his rookie year. He started all 82 games when he was in Buffalo, recording 18 interceptions and recovering five fumbles.
The Rams did not spend as much time last season improving their secondary. They only added players after the fact, losing important players like Taylor Rapp and Jalen Ramsey to free agency. But those additions—like John Johnson and Ahkello Witherspoon—were crucial to the Rams’ success this season.
youthful cornerbacks Derion Kendrick and Cobie Durant, who were late-round draft picks, started a combined 21 games last season. But with the arrival of White and the retention of Williams, they are likely to return to backup roles.
