Ahead of the 2024 NFL season, the Buffalo Bills are putting a lot of effort into strengthening their roster. Josh Allen, the quarterback for the Bills, may have just given away a big clue about what they want to do with their first-round selection.
In an interview with Kyle Allen, Allen’s previous backup, on the podcast “The QB Room,” Allen was asked which receiver he “loved” going into the 2024 draft.
Rome Odunze, Marvin Harrison Jr., and Malik Nabers are the top three prospects, according to Allen. “Next, you reach a somewhat intermediate level, where players like Brian Thomas, Adonai Mitchell, Troy Franklin, Keon Coleman, and Xavier Worthy are present, along with Xavier Legette.”
Some people were taken aback when Allen revealed his list of receivers because they were precisely the kind of players Buffalo needed. The remaining players could be worthy targets, even though his Top 3 are unlikely to be available at No. 28.
“His list may provide some clues as to what he and his team are thinking,” SI’s Anthony Licciardi wrote. With the exception of Worthy, all of those second-tier targets have X receiving profiles, much like [Gabe] Davis, who left to take a free agent contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
According to Allen’s remarks, it seems likely that if the Bills are looking for players with fluid athleticism, natural separation skills, or strong after-the-catch abilities, they will most likely fill the spot on the depth chart currently occupied by certain players. However, other highly touted prospects like Ladd McConkey from Georgia and the duo of Ja’Lynn Polk and Jalen McMillan from Washington were not mentioned. None of these players seem to match the specific qualities mentioned earlier. This has led many fans to speculate that the Bills will be selecting a receiver in the first round of the draft.
