Maple Leafs are preparing for a deep playoff run this season after a strong 2023-24 campaign. They recently acquired new players like Ilya Lyubushkin, Connor Dewar, and Joel Edmundson. The team will soon need to decide on re-signing Tyler Bertuzzi, whose offensive production this season has not been impressive. With several pending free agents to consider, including Bertuzzi, the Maple Leafs only have a limited budget to work with. Bertuzzi’s next contract may be similar to Max Domi’s projected deal of $4-$4.5 million per season. Despite some struggles this season, it would be beneficial for the Maple Leafs to bring back Bertuzzi at the right price to strengthen their roster.
Maiorana claims that Samuel was still with the Panthers in 2020 when head coach Matt Rhule was calling plays with Joe Brady, the offensive coordinator for the Bills at the time. The season was Samuel’s best in his seven NFL seasons, with 77 receptions on 97 targets for 851 yards and three touchdowns. In terms of yardage and reception totals, as well as catch percentage (79.4%), he set career highs.
Despite his strength as a player, Bertuzzi is finding it difficult to fit in with the Maple Leafs this season. Even though he’s since improved his game, is contributing offensively thanks to more ice time and coaches’ confidence, he might not be able to land the huge contract he’s been pursuing. However, if Bertuzzi is prepared to take an affordable contract and the price is right, it would be good to have him back. With any luck, the Maple Leafs and Bertuzzi can work out an extension at a fair price, giving them ample cash to add even more talent to their lineup in the offseason.
