This summer, the Buffalo Bills have a major challenge: figuring out how to replace both of their best wide receivers from the previous campaign.
After losing out on free agency to the Houston Texans for No. 1 wide receiver Stefon Diggs, the Bills acquired No. 2 wide receiver Gabe Davis. The team may add another veteran in free agency, as general manager Brandon Beane has hinted, but this month’s NFL Draft may offer the best opportunity to uncover a receiver who can make a significant impact.
That’s precisely what Pro Football Focus’s Max Chadwick predicts will happen next: the Bills will select a gifted but undeveloped wide receiver with the chance to develop into Diggs’ successor with their first-round choice.
Adonai Mitchell, a wide receiver from Texas, is one of the “most athletic” receivers available in this year’s draft class, and Chadwick anticipated that the Bills will select Mitchell with the 29th overall choice. Mitchell might work well with Josh Allen, the quarterback for the Bills, according to the PFF writer.
After losing out on Stefon Diggs to the Texans, the Bills are in dire need of additional pass catchers. As one of the most athletic receivers in the draft, Adonai Mitchell has a high ceiling, but he still needs to put in more work to accomplish it, according to Chadwick. Josh Allen might be the best quarterback to assist him in doing so.
Lance Zierlein, an NFL.com draft expert, referred to Mitchell as a “ascending prospect” but pointed out that he still needed to improve on some of his weaknesses.Although he still lacks consistency and focus when route running, Zierlein noted that quickness and burst out of breaks won’t be a problem. Mitchell is a tough player who can succeed on all three levels after the catch. His eagerness to work on the unfinished aspects of his profession could mean the difference between him becoming a WR2 or WR1.
The Bills will select a receiver with their first-round selection, as many analysts have predicted along with Chadwick, but Beane emphasised that the team won’t reach if there aren’t any solid choices available.
“At 28, we’ll take the other position if all of our first-round receivers are gone and the next player is far into the second round, but we have other needs. According to the team’s official website, Beane stated, “You still have to take good football players.”
