Earlier this offseason, the Buffalo Bills acquired safety Mike Edwards from the Kansas City Chiefs, and it appears he is in contention for a starting role. Bills GM Brandon Beane aims to fill roster gaps to allow for flexibility in the NFL Draft, and although Edwards may not completely meet this goal, his 28 career starts bring stability to the safety position. Edwards was paid $2.8 million, which should exclude him from the compensatory pick formula. The breakdown of his contract includes a $1 million signing bonus, $600,000 of his base salary guaranteed, and additional bonuses. Despite being one of the lower-paid safeties in the league, Edwards will likely have a significant role as a key player or top reserve for the Bills.
