It is widely believed that the Bears, who will select first overall, and the Commanders, who will select second, will both take quarterbacks at the top of the 2024 draft. The Patriots will be in a good position to repeat if they hold the next pick, but a move down the order is still possible.Eliot Wolf, who oversees the Patriots’ draft but may not operate as the team’s de facto general manager afterward, acknowledged during a press conference on Thursday that trade negotiations centred on the No. 3 pick have taken place in New England. Although the team has been linked to a trade-down strategy this offseason, many people are still anticipating Wolf and company to stay put because of the chance to add a potential franchise passer. Naturally, the majority of New England’s last decision will depend on the value of offers made by other QB-needy teams
A previous report suggested the Patriots will probably be demanding too much for the third overall pick, making a transaction difficult to work out. Wolf stated that no offer offered so far has been adequate to move down the board. That might alter in the next several days as a number of teams, including the Giants, Vikings, Broncos, and Raiders, are rumoured to be interested in a Day 1 quarterback. Prospect passers have been studied by New England, and the player selected at number three may immediately challenge for the starting job.
There seems to be disagreement within the organisation between J.J. McCarthy and Drake Maye, both of whom have been to the Patriots. Peter Schrager of NFL Network, however, points out he believes that after the Commanders are chosen, the Patriots will feel “comfortable” adding whichever of Maye or Jayden Daniels is on the board. Maye would remain a formidable Patriots contender if the latter were to emerge victorious as Washington’s nominee.
The Patriots are “open for business” when it comes to trading up or down in each of the draft’s seven rounds, according to Wolf. Even though each team experiences this to varied degrees, there is still a great deal of mystery around the third overall pick as the draft nears and many things still to be decided.
