Pittsburgh The Pittsburgh Steelers completely redesigned their quarterback room this offseason, dealing Kenny Pickett, letting go of Mitch Trubisky, and allowing Mason Rudolph walk in addition to adding Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, and Kyle Allen.
However, not everyone is extremely optimistic that it will succeed. There are several issues with the Steelers’ new quarterback room, despite the stated improvements. One was brought up by ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky, who said that Pittsburgh could be in problems because their quarterbacks are getting into difficulties when they are sacking opponents.

Orlovsky raised doubts about whether the Steelers have a quarterback who can produce more positive plays than negative ones and eliminate the mistakes that players like Pickett and Trubisky made when they were starters. Negative plays refer to things like sacks, fumbles, and interceptions. Orlovsky specifically highlighted the high number of negative plays made by Justin Fields in the past two seasons compared to other quarterbacks, posing the question of which quarterback can minimize these errors more effectively. Joe Dolan further criticized the Steelers’ quarterbacks for their tendency to give up sacks, pointing out that even legendary linemen wouldn’t be able to prevent a high sack count with them under center. While Russell Wilson is set to start in 2024, with a solid record from the previous season, Fields may need further development time given his previous win-loss record.
