Some of those gaps will be filled in part by the 2024 NFL Draft, but on Monday, Denver might use a productive veteran to patch up one position.
If all goes well during his visit, free-agent cornerback Levi Wallace is anticipated to sign a one-year contract with the Broncos, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Although there were “plenty of options” for him, he allegedly desired to play with defensive coordinator Vance Joseph.
Wallace, an undrafted rookie from Alabama in 2018, has had stints with the Bills and Steelers, accumulating 306 tackles, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, 12 interceptions, and 54 passes defensed in his six-year NFL career. His signing with Denver would shore up a weakness in their defense, lining him up alongside cornerback Patrick Surtain II in 2024. The Broncos may still choose to add to their cornerback room in the draft, but bringing Wallace on board would reduce the pressure to do so. With questions still looming at the quarterback position, the move to acquire Wallace could signal Denver’s intention to trade up in the draft for a top prospect. This could come at a high cost, as other teams vying for quarterbacks are also looking to make moves. However, if head coach Sean Payton has a specific player in mind, the Broncos might make a bold move to secure him. By bolstering their defense with Wallace, Denver could have more flexibility with their first-round pick, potentially impacting their draft strategy on Thursday night.
