The Panthers selected Jonathon Brooks as the first running back in the recent draft, trading two fifth-round picks to move up and pick him in the second round. This choice, however, does not affect the position of RB Miles Sanders in the team. General Manager Dan Morgan expressed the team’s admiration for Sanders, emphasizing his versatility and importance to the offense. New head coach Dave Canales highlighted that all running backs, including Brooks, Sanders, and Chuba Hubbard, will have playing time due to the physical demands of the position. Sanders, who had a challenging season in 2023, will soon turn 27. Despite a tough year, the team remains committed to him, especially with the change in coaching staff and offensive system. Sanders struggled with his performance last season but will have an opportunity for improvement under the new coaching regime. The team is considering the possibility of signing cornerback Stephon Gilmore, who previously played for the Panthers. Following the draft, the team added Washington State defender Chau Smith-Wade as a cornerback option, though his size may limit him to a slot role. With the need for a boundary corner alongside Jaycee Horn and Dane Jackson, the Panthers continue to evaluate their defensive options.
