A former Buffalo Bills wide receiver is poised to hit the free agency market this offseason following the announcement by the Jacksonville Jaguars that they will be parting ways with him on Tuesday morning. The Jaguars filled the void at wide receiver in the draft after losing Calvin Ridley to the Tennessee Titans in free agency back in March. They used their first-round pick to snag LSU standout wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. to bolster their receiving corps. Additionally, they made some necessary moves, particularly on the defensive line, and also picked up kicker Cam Little in the sixth round. With Thomas and Little joining the team this fall, the Jaguars made the decision to release Zay Jones and Joey Slye. Jones, who was selected by the Bills in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft, had a productive seven-year career in the league, recording 281 receptions for 2,981 yards and 18 touchdowns. Despite his contributions, the Jaguars felt that they had enough depth at the wide receiver position after acquiring Thomas and former Bills wide receiver Gabe Davis in free agency. However, the Bills may consider bringing Jones back in free agency to add depth to their receiving corps, especially after drafting Keon Coleman with their first pick this year. The team still has work to do to improve their unit.
