There’s a longstanding joke in Charlotte that, particularly when it comes to football defence, the Carolina Panthers have served as the Buffalo Bills’ feeder system over the years. Since 2017, Sean McDermott, the head coach of the Bills and a former defensive coordinator for Carolina, has signed a number of former Panthers, and he added another to that lengthy list Wednesday.
Most of the new additions were experienced athletes who had played for at least a few years in Carolina. This one differs somewhat. Linebacker Deion Jones, who played just one season for the Panthers, was signed to a one-year contract on Thursday night.
Over the course of the season, the veteran Atlanta Falcon and former Pro Bowler saw his position expand after signing with the team late in the summer. With 13 appearances, three starts, and 35 tackles—four for loss, six passes deflected, one quarterback hit, and one sack—he finished with a strong stat line.
