It is said that the Patriots have followed the Rooney Rule. Which, if accurate, is fortunate because executives from other clubs are declining the chance to interview for the open G.M. position in New England.
The Patriots indicated interest in interviewing Terrance Grey, the director of player personnel for the Bills, for the position, according to SI.com’s Albert Breer. Grey “refused politely.”
The Patriots will eventually run into trouble if they haven’t already complied with the Rooney Rule (it’s unclear who they interviewed to do so). Many candidates may be declining the chance to interview because of the general belief that Eliot Wolf will be hired.
There is benefit to interviewing, even if Wolf is the preferred option. It could be very beneficial for upcoming interviews.
At least three candidates have declined, for whatever reason. The majority of players in the league are merely waiting for Wolf to be named the person in control of New England football.
