In an effort to assist families facing food insecurity and meeting specific diet requirements, Wegmans and the Buffalo Bills have partnered.
Wegmans’ Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, and Southern Tier, New York, stores are offering customers the opportunity to purchase specific allergen-friendly and special diet food items to be donated to the local food bank and member agencies of each store from May 4 through May 18.
FeedMore WNY in Buffalo, Foodlink in Rochester, Food Bank Central New York in Syracuse, and Food Bank of the Southern Tier in the Southern Tier region of New York are among the food banks that will benefit.
Wegmans’ allergen-friendly offerings for this year include Daiya Mac & Cheeze, Organic Creamy Sunflower Butter, Gluten Free Chocolate Brownie Mix, and more. To help the food drive, a lot of these allergy-friendly products are available for less than $10.
Wegmans SVP of the Buffalo Division Patty Kaminski remarked, “We’re thrilled to collaborate on this community project with the Buffalo Bills and our local food banks.” “We see more and more customers looking for food allergy products, and we know that there’s a great need to get these special diet items to those who need them but may need support to feed their families.”
Head coach Sean McDermott and his family are personally touched by this project, as his children suffer from food allergies.
McDermott declared, “We are all in this together to raise awareness about food allergies.” “Two of my kids have been directly affected by food allergies.”
This week, McDermott stopped at the Wegmans store on McKinley to express his support for the Wegmans/Bills collaboration.
“Really, two reasons why I’m here today: one is to help build awareness and two is to help make sure that the people affected by this get the resources that they need at their fingertips,” McDermott stated.
The reason Jamie McDermott, Sean McDermott’s wife, is advocating for food allergies in the community was also mentioned.
“As a mother, I can attest to the fact that it has a significant impact on our family as well as many others. As parents, there is hardly a moment when you are not thinking about these tough lessons that you have learnt throughout the years, according to Jamie McDermott. “We are really appreciative of Wegmans and this collaboration. It means a lot to us since we are aware that we are not the only family dealing with food allergies, and it will be worthwhile if we can assist even one family by facilitating their access to safe foods for their families.”
