Former Wagner football All-American and two-time Northeast Conference (NEC) Defensive Player of the Year Cam Gill has signed with the National Football League’s (NFL) Carolina Panthers.
After an impressive collegiate career that earned him All-America honors, Gill was picked up as an undrafted free agent by the Buccaneers following the 2020 NFL Draft. He secured a spot on Tampa Bay’s roster during training camp and went on to win Super Bowl LV in a memorable fashion.
During the third quarter, Gill made a crucial tackle on a kickoff, teaming up with defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh to sack Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes with just five minutes left in the game. Gill was also credited with a forced fumble on the play.
Throughout his four seasons with the Bucs, Gill has accumulated 29 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and a forced fumble. He played a significant role on Tampa Bay’s special teams in 2023.
Gill concluded his time as a Seahawk as one of Wagner’s most decorated players. He was recognized as a STATS FCS First Team All-American, a Hero Sports FCS Second Team All-American, and an Associated Press Third Team All-American during his career. Additionally, he was a member of the All-ECAC First Team and participated in the prestigious East-West Shrine Bowl after the 2019 season.
Hailing from Douglasville, GA, Gill made history as the fifth player in NEC history to be named the league’s top defensive player twice. He finished his collegiate career as the conference’s all-time sack leader with 34. In 2019, the dynamic outside linebacker led the league with 9.5 sacks, along with 20 tackles for loss and 60 overall stops in 12 games. Gill was also a finalist for the FCS’ Buck Buchanan Award, recognizing the top defensive player in the country.
Gill was one of four Seahawks to play in the NFL last season, with his former teammates Chris Williams (Cleveland Browns) and Titus Leo (Indianapolis Colts) still currently under contract.
