Even though Bryce Young was highly decorated at every level of football going into his first campaign, everything changed.
Young’s confidence deteriorated as the Panthers lost ground. In 16 of his 17 games as a rookie, he started. He was sacked 62 times in that period, which is tied for the sixth-highest total in NFL history. However, veteran NFL quarterback Andy Dalton, Young’s backup coming into year two, thinks the young quarterback is already exhibiting significant improvements in leadership before the 2024 campaign even begins.
You can tell how at ease he is in all that we are doing at the moment. becoming the team’s front-runner. Speaking wisely and confronting the offender, saying, “Hey, let’s be intentional with today’s practice,” Dalton remarked to Person of the Joseph
The Athletic. “Just all the little things that a year ago, you’re the new guy. You’re in the huddle and in the building with a lot of new faces, with guys that are a lot older than you. And you’re thrust into that quarterback leadership position. Now it’s way easier for him because he’s already experienced it all.”
On his first run through Charlotte, Young heard multiple voices in his ear. Frank Reich’s combination of ideas proved unsuccessful, and the offence he was brought in to develop collapsed in Week 1.
Life seems different when Dave Canales is around. Young has talked about his growing bond with the head coach in his first season.
The freshness and energy we had were palpable across the entire locker room. OTAs are the culprits. It’s early. We have a tonne of learning and work ahead of us, Young said to The Athletic. “But for everyone being there, Dave and the staff have my sincere gratitude.”
Young’s life is evolving. And with it, the Panthers’ lives might be changing along with him.
