Three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Justin Jefferson signed a record-breaking four-year, $140 million contract extension with the Minnesota Vikings. That concluded one of the NFL’s more noteworthy ongoing crises.
However, Stefon Diggs was the Vikings’ top wide receiver before Jefferson.
Diggs was chosen by the Vikings with their fifth-round draft choice in 2015. In 2020, they sent him to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for a bundle that contained the pick that went to Jefferson.
In his first public remarks since being traded from the Bills to the Houston Texans this offseason, Diggs questioned the Vikings’ motivations in that transaction. The four-time Pro Bowler also asserted that while donning the purple and gold, he did not perform to the best of his abilities.
On June 4, Diggs told reporters, “[Bills QB Josh Allen] was an intricate piece in my career.” “I guess it was like I was a decent player at that moment, when I left Minnesota or something. Do you understand what I mean? However, I was always more self-centered. I thought I could do better, that I was capable of doing better.
“Up until that time, I was just like, s***, I’m going to take a chance and wager on myself, you understand? And I was transferred to Buffalo by them, the Vikings. I’m not sure if they sent me to Buffalo with the greatest of intentions or the nicest of intentions. All is fine, though, in the end.
