The Buffalo Bills supported Tyler Bass despite a few missteps towards the end of the season, but there are concerns as a recent report indicates he is still facing challenges during offseason practices. Bass’ field goal success rate last season was only 82.8%, slightly better than his rookie year’s low. Some significant missed kicks, such as one in the divisional-round defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs, highlighted his struggles. According to reporter Alex Brasky from the Batavia Daily News, Bass is continuing to have trouble, as he reportedly missed multiple kicks of varying distances during the team’s June 12 practice session.
Brasky pointed out that Tyler Bass struggled at Wednesday’s practice, going 3-for-7 on kicks including two misses from under 40 yards. This poor performance added to concerns about Bass, with suggestions that the Bills might consider bringing in competition for the kicking job during training camp. Despite his struggles, there is a financial incentive for the team to keep Bass due to his contract situation. The hope is that Bass can regain the form he showed in previous seasons when he had a higher field goal percentage. The pressure is on for Bass to bounce back in 2024, especially after an uneven season in 2023. Bills head coach Sean McDermott expressed confidence in Bass and believes he will put in the work needed to improve for the upcoming season.
