Throughout his debut campaign with the Carolina Panthers, Bryce Young experienced a lot. His offensive coordinator and head coach were at odds over play calling, his offensive line was among the worst in the league, and his receivers were unable to find openings. It’s challenging to expect any quarterback to do well in that setting, much less a rookie.
The Panthers provided him with some assistance throughout the offseason, which has helped him feel more assured and at ease in his work. Adam Thielen, a wide receiver for the Panthers, spoke with Rich Eisen earlier this week about Young’s progress and how much this year has changed from last.
It’s been fantastic. Not only has it been a terrific offseason for him, but also for many of the young men and staff. Seeing these young players enter the league with such confidence and how confident they seem is impressive. Bryce’s attitude is evident throughout the building; he’s just more at ease. Having spent the first two weeks of OTAs with Bryce, I couldn’t help but notice that, in comparison to the same period last year, he hadn’t even arrived yet. He was still not even a member of any teams.
“He’s there now. We are currently receiving air routes. We share the locker room and are surrounded by each other. You two have that time.that we didn’t have last year. You start thinking like, that’s tough as a rookie quarterback. You come in and you’re already behind the eight ball learning the playbook, learning the players, and then you take that month off and then it’s boom! Training camp. It was a whirlwind in a lot of ways and that’s not even talking about the system, the coaching, and the adversity and all that. It’s been a really cool offseason to see how he’s just come back with okay, I got urgency, I got confidence, I have comfortability in the system.”
