There’s enough strain on Dave Canales’s shoulders.
The first-year head coach of the Carolina Panthers is charged with finding a way out of the no-man’s-land that the team has been playing in for a long time. In order to get past Bryce Young, the second-year quarterback, he must also decipher the offensive code.
The Panthers might be in good shape if he does this. And if everything goes according to plan for Carolina, Canales is a dark horse candidate for Coach of the Year, according to Bleacher Report.
The Panthers can only go in one direction, and Canales will undoubtedly be considered if he can help Carolina overachieve and assist quarterback Bryce Young get back on track,” according to Bleacher Report. “The talent and experience is there, and the NFC South is soft enough for a surprise Panthers run.”
Canales has experience working with quarterbacks. He contributed to Geno Smith’s career revival. The Tampa Bay quarterback and former Panthers starter Baker Mayfield then received the same treatment from him.
Young is benefitting from a clear and consistent message, which was lacking in his rookie season when there were too many conflicting voices. Canales, to be named Coach of the Year, must guide the Panthers back to the playoffs, a feat they haven’t achieved since Tepper acquired the team, and help Young showcase his true potential as a top-notch quarterback. If these conditions are met, Canales may be on track for a Coach of the Year accolade.
