Carolina Panthers’ rookie tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders appears to be developing a strong rapport with quarterback Bryce Young. During a media session on Monday, the former Texas Longhorns standout discussed his bond with Young as they prepare for the 2024 season. Sanders expressed optimism about their growing connection, particularly as they have been practicing together with the first-team offense, stating that they are forging a special relationship. At 21 years old, Sanders was chosen by the Panthers in the fourth round of this year’s draft after earning recognition on the All-Big 12 First Team in his final two seasons at Texas. While primarily playing as a tight end in college, Sanders also has the versatility to line up as a wide receiver if required. Sanders highlighted his receiving skills, noting his experience as a high school receiver and emphasizing the evolving role of tight ends in today’s game. He identified a shift towards tight ends who excel in the passing game, citing established players like Kelce, Kittle, and Hockinson as trailblazers, while positioning himself and other rookies as part of the new wave of tight ends who bring enhanced receiving abilities to the position. Sanders has been taking advantage of increased opportunities with the first-team offense due to injuries affecting other tight ends on the roster. Panthers’ head coach Dave Canales has been pleased with Sanders’ progress and development during training camp.
