Many things happen for players and teams during this time of year, as the Buffalo Bills prepare for the 2024 NFL season with training camp and the preseason under way. A guy who signed with Buffalo earlier this week in an attempt to continue his career has now decided to retire permanently.
Tavon Austin, a wide receiver, revealed on Instagram on Tuesday that he was retiring from the NFL after playing for five different teams for ten seasons, five of which he spent with the Rams following their move from St. Louis to Los Angeles. After a brilliant career at West Virginia, Austin was selected with the eighth overall choice in the 2013 NFL Draft, giving him quite the draft pedigree entering the league.
Whether he was rushing the football, catching it, or playing return man in a special teams game, Austin became a household name when he was in college. Austin had a successful NFL career, but he was never able to duplicate the domination he displayed at West Virginia, in part because he was lacking a proper position.
After all, Austin ends his career with 3,600 yards from scrimmage and 26 touchdowns both on the ground and in the air. In the summer of 2022, Austin signed a free-agent contract with the Bills. However, he was dismissed later that fall and never played in the NFL again.
