Bills QB Josh Allen likens rookie Keon Coleman to two former All-Pro WRs

Comparing players is a common topic among NFL analysts, as each athlete is unique; however, these comparisons can help fans understand a player’s style. For instance, likening a young quarterback to Buffalo Bills’ Josh Allen indicates they might share similar attributes, such as being a strong-armed, athletic passer, but doesn’t guarantee the same impact on their offense.
In a recent episode of the Green Light with Chris Long podcast, Allen talked about various subjects, including rookie wide receiver Keon Coleman. After showing strong chemistry during training camp, many believe that Coleman, previously considered a raw talent from Florida State, might have a bigger immediate influence than expected. Long asked Allen if Coleman reminded him of any former NFL wide receivers, indicating growing interest in the rookie’s potential.
In his response, Allen compared the 21-year-old to two previous All-Pro pass-catchers and showered the youngster with accolades.
“As I watched his college tape, I felt like he was a hybrid of Michael Thomas and Dez Bryant,” Allen remarked. “He’s a big guy with excellent body control, and Michael Thomas and Dez also seem to have it.” I believe he is on par with them.
“As far as sprinting to the right, jumping off his right, and turning left, and then sprinting left, jumping off his left, and turning right, I believe he has the best body control I’ve seen.” That, I believe, is his basketball history. Throughout his college career, Coleman showcased his skills, wrapping up the 2023 season in Tallahassee with 50 catches for 658 yards and 11 touchdowns. His tape caught Allen’s attention, but it was only when the rookie joined the team at One Bills Drive that Allen began to appreciate his distinctive personality. In an interview, Allen drew comparisons between Coleman and another young player, Dalton Kincaid, as well as himself.
“He has a similar vibe to Dalton Kincaid, which also reminds me of my own personality,” Allen remarked. “These are guys who truly enjoy football, but also love to have a good time. Fun is essential—if you’re not having fun anymore, you might as well find something else to do.”
Allen and Coleman have connected for numerous impressive completions during training camp, and they will have another chance to strengthen their connection during Buffalo’s preseason Week 2 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday evening, where the starters are expected to play for about a quarter and a half, depending on the weather.
