Wide receiver Khalil Shakir of the Buffalo Bills has unprecedented expectations from the league, and his quarterback is sure he can live up to them.
Buffalo signal-caller Josh Allen praised Shakir highly during a recent interview on the Green Light with Chris Long podcast, pointing out how versatile he is for the offence.
Allen remarked, “He had, like, the best catch percentage [last season].” “Observe everything he does—he flies to the ball, adds an extra block, and follows it in case someone fumbles—when he isn’t even in possession of the ball. His goal is to encourage someone to open up behind him by using his influence. He’s a blast to hang out with and goes about things the proper way.”
Shakir has proven to be a dependable receiver since the Bills selected him in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He has shown significant improvement in his performance each year, increasing his stats from 161 yards and one touchdown in 2022 to 611 yards and two touchdowns last season. His remarkable development is highlighted by his reception rate; he caught 91.1% of “catchable” passes, according to Pro Football Focus, the highest in the NFL in 2023.
Allen cited last year’s Wild Card round victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers as a significant example of Shakir’s capabilities.
“You see what he can do with the ball in his hands, especially in the Steelers playoff game last year when he broke through their defense to score,” Allen said. “I’m looking forward to him taking on a larger role in our offense. We haven’t relied heavily on him in the past couple of years, but in the latter half of last season, we utilized him more, and the results were evident. I’m really excited about what he can achieve this upcoming season.”
