Caitlin Clark achieved her second career WNBA triple-double on Wednesday evening, finishing with 24 points, 10 assists, and 10 rebounds during a victory against the Los Angeles Sparks.
She played the full 40 minutes in the 93-86 win, which is the fourth time she has done so this season as a rookie.
While many coaches might choose to rest a promising young player with the playoffs near, Indiana Fever head coach Christie Sides is not one of them. She seems confident in keeping Clark on the court for extended periods.
Clark is also at ease with this situation.
Following Wednesday night’s game, she was questioned about whether she had ever requested to be substituted.
The rookie, along with her All-Star teammate Aliyah Boston, promptly replied with a “No.”
“I believe I’ve improved at finding the balance between conserving my energy during the game and maintaining pace,” Clark stated.
“It’s not really up to me,” she added. “The coaches understand what we need at that moment. I could likely play another 40 minutes; I typically don’t like to take breaks.”
Clark is averaging 35.5 minutes of play per game during her rookie season. The Fever have a record of 1-3 in the four games where Clark played the full 40 minutes. They are currently enjoying a five-game winning streak and aim to maintain their success in Friday’s game against the Minnesota Lynx.
